Frequently Asked Questions

About 4G LTE

About 4G LTE

1. What is 4G LTE?

4G stands for “fourth generation mobile telecommunications technology” while LTE is short for "Long Term Evolution". It is a wireless communication standard of high-speed data for mobile devices and data terminals.

2. How do I enjoy 4G LTE?

With 4G LTE, we promise worry-free, high speed Internet. All you have to do is ensure that you are:
- Subscribed to a 4G LTE plan
- Using a USIM card
- Using a 4G LTE device
- Within our 4G LTE network coverage

3. Where can I get Digi 4G LTE coverage?

To ensure that everyone has equal access to high speed Internet, we’ve become one of the fastest growing 4G LTE providers. Digi’s 4G LTE network is now available nationwide in all major cities and secondary towns. To see if your region is covered, check this coverage map out. If it’s not, rest assured that we’re getting there.

4. How does Digi qualify as Malaysia’s widest 4G LTE network?

Digi has achieved 85% 4G LTE population coverage, meaning we have connected more Malaysians nationwide to high speed mobile internet, and we’re present in 275 major cities and secondary towns, with key market centers enjoying a steady 98% population coverage.

5. What are the benefits of 4G LTE?

With 4G LTE, you can enjoy much quicker download and upload speeds along with faster response times.

6. What is the speed of 4G LTE?

In general, 4G LTE is about 10x faster than the standard 3G network. Theoretically, 4G LTE can go up to 150Mbps, depending on factors such as network conditions, coverage, and device used. But to give you the best 4G LTE experience, we promise to give consistent Internet experience of at least 5Mbps, 80% of the time.

7. Are there any disadvantages of 4G LTE?

Typically, there will be a slight increase in voice call setup time – which is a common issue in a live 4G LTE environment.

8. What are the bands/spectrums supported by the Digi 4G LTE network?

Our 4G LTE network is running on the 1800 Mhz (Band 3) and 2600MHz spectrum (Band 7).

9. How to check whether I can enjoy Digi’s 4G LTE Network?

Just SMS to LTE or lte to 20000 to find out.
4G LTE-Advanced

1. What is LTE-A?

Short for LTE-Advanced, it is the next step in mobile broadband networks. The A stands for Advanced and in layman's terms, that’s exactly what LTE-A is – an advanced LTE network!

2. What is the difference between 4G LTE and LTE-A?

•  LTE-A marks the evolution of LTE to even higher user data rates and more network capacity.
•  One of the key features of LTE-A is Carrier Aggregation, a technology that allows a combination of bandwidth by making devices capable of utilising several cellular frequencies at the same time. This effectively doubles the capacity and data rates up twice.

3. How can customers feel the difference between the two?

Customers will experience double the speed (2x) compared to 4G LTE. For instance, a user who normally experiences a maximum of 20 Mbps download speed while using Ookla Speedtest app, will be able to enjoy 40 Mbps maximum download speed with 4G LTE-A.

4. What speeds are we looking at for LTE-A with Digi?

Theoretical speeds of 150Mbps, and we offer customers a consistent experience of >10Mbps, 80% of the time.

5. Are those speeds enough for the services customers use today?

Yes, in fact, we offer you more than what you actually need for seamless:
•   Instant messaging: 50Kbps
•   Web-surfing: 500Kbps-1Mbps
•   Audio Streaming: 500Kbps-1Mbps
•   Video Streaming: 1-3Mbps

6. How many LTE-A CA sites do you have in your network?

33% of our network is LTE-A.

7. Is this nationwide or clustered in a few regions only?

LTE-A is available across all key regions nationwide:

8. How is it possible that you have switched on so many sites in such a short time?

This is made possible from our network modernisation exercise and preparedness to ensure our network is future-ready.

9. Why is it important to switch on LTE-A when LTE speeds are more than enough for our customers?

This gives customers more capacity and speeds to meet their internet appetite, and ready the network for future services that Digi will offer.

10. What are the requirements to enjoy LTE A?

Customers must be located in areas with LTE-A coverage, and must have an LTE-A or Carrier Aggregation capable device.

1. Do I need a USIM card to enjoy 4G LTE?

Yes, you need a USIM card to enjoy 4G LTE.

2. Where can I get a USIM card?

You can get a USIM card at any Digi Store.

3. How much do I have to pay for a USIM card?

You can get a USIM card at any Digi Store.

4. How do I check to see if I'm already using USIM card?

Check your SIM card to see if it has the letter “U” under the Digi logo.

1. How do I know if 4G LTE is enabled on my device?

You will see a "4G" or "LTE" symbol next to your network reception bar.

2. I have subscribed to a 4G LTE plan, inserted my USIM in a 4G LTE enabled device and am within the coverage area, but I am still not connected to 4G LTE. What should I do?

Please check that you have enabled 4G LTE in your network settings:

For iPhone users
Go to Settings > Cellular > select Enable LTE
For Android™ users
Go to Settings > Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks >
Network Mode > Select
LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)

Please also ensure that your device is running the latest firmware/OS. If you’re not, kindly download and install the latest version. If problem persists, try restarting your device.

3. Can I turn off 4G LTE on my device?

Yes, you can. Please follow the steps in the FAQ above this one to turn off 4G LTE.

1. Why am I experiencing a slow Internet speeds? What should I do?

First try to re-establish the connection and observe whether the problem persists. If yes, just give us a call at 016 2211 800. Our customer service will be glad to help.

2. My Internet connection suddenly disconnected. What should I do?

Try to re-establish the connection or utilize the auto re-connect function on your device.

3. Why is there no indoor 4G LTE coverage, although the coverage map shows my area is covered?

The coverage map is an indication of the network coverage area. Unfortunately actual network coverage is still largely dependent on factors such land terrain and building blockages that might affect the coverage performance.

4. Why am I not experiencing the promised 4G LTE speeds?

Actual speeds are largely dependent on factors such as network conditions, coverage and device used. However, Digi promises a consistent Internet experience of 5Mbps, 80% of the time.

5. I used to experience 4G LTE signal in my area previously, has it disappeared just a few months ago. Why did this happen?

There are multiple factors that could contribute toward this, such as network and terrain conditions, and device sensitivity is another key contributing factor. Please refer to the coverage map to check your coverage area. If all else fails, no worries, just give us a call us at 016 2211 800, our customer service is always glad to help.
